Ethernet Product Family:

10G SFP+ Transceiver

The recently standardized SFP+ MSA defines a small form factor optical module definition for 10Gbps that is identical in dimensions to the SFP (small-form-factor pluggable) industry standard, used for data rates up to 4Gbps. Form factor reduction is achieved by retaining only the bare minimum functionality inside the optical module. Signal conditioning functionalities like electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) and clock and data recovery (CDR) have been moved to the host card. The reduced form factor of SFP+ enables higher port densities compared earlier 10GbE module types like X2 or XFP. Since the transceiver functionalities reside on the host board, it also enables highly integrated transceiver ASICs that supports multiple ports, reducing host board space and overall system cost.
